Getting ready for winter
The warm weather we've been having in Maine has delayed wrapping and packing the nucs, but I'm finally getting to the last of them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these baby beehives have a nice rest through winter and come into spring strong and ready to grow.

Overland Apiaires is pleased to announce that Master Beekeeper Cindy Bee has joined the Overland Team. Cindy is a third Generation Beekeeper and has had a full time Bee Relocation/Removal business in the Atlanta GA area for 14 years. Cindy is co-author of Honey Bee Removal, a Step-by-Step Guide.
Overland is very excited to have Cindy on board. Her expertise in bee management, honey production, and education is a huge addition to our team.

Beginner and Intermediate Bee School Classes Scheduled

The Cumberland County Beekeepers Association has organized a hotline for swarm removal.
If you find a swarm of honeybees, please call (or submit this form) and a beekeeper will come collect them and give them a good safe home.
Making Overwintering Nucs workshop
Master Beekeeper Erin MacGregor-Forbes will be teaching a workshop on Overwintering Summer Nucs July 16, 2011.

This workshop is designed for beekeepers with 2+ years of beekeeping experience.
In the workshop we will discuss how making summer nucs can play a key role in creating your sustainable northern apiary.
There will be a hands on demonstration of nuc creation in the Cumberland County Beekeepers Association Club Apiary, using the CCBA Club hives. Northern Raised queens for this workshop will be provided by French Hill Apiaries of St Albans, VT.
Cost of the workshop is $140 and includes two northern raised queens and a divided deep hive body to house your two nucs.
(you will need a solid bottom board and telescoping cover, as well as at least one strong colony in your home apiary to make your own nucs.)

We are now sold out of our 2010 honey crop. Thank you for all of your support of the bees and our apiary. We delivered the last 6 cases of honey to Rosemont Market in Portland on Saturday afternoon, so there will be a limited supply available there until it is gone.
